Perma-Chink Shell-Guard Concentrate Borate-Glycol Wood Preservative provides your log home with the ultimate protection against insects and wood rot. Shell-Guard combines the well-known effectiveness of borates with a glycol system that increases the penetration into the wood to enhance the action of the borate.
Shell-Guard is a water-soluble, inorganic, borate salt containing compound that is effective for preventing and eliminating wood decay and wood destroying insect infestations in exterior and interior wood members. Shell-Guard protects against wood decay fungi, termites, carpenter ants, and wood boring beetles. Shell-Guard concentrate makes wood toxic to wood destroying organisms.
Borates are recognized as the most effective “green” wood preservatives available. Shell-Guard is colorless, odorless, and has a very low toxicity to people and pets. The glycols used in Shell-Guard are the same type as those found in many food and skin care products.
Shell-Guard is a concentrate that is mixed with an equal amount of water, and then applied to clean, bare wood with a brush or as a spray. Once in the wood, it will kill insects that eat wood such as wood boring beetles and termites, as well as the types of fungi that cause rot and decay.

Application Guide:
Application temperature: 40° F to 90° F
Application methods: Low pressure sprayer; brush; drill holes and inject
Surface preparation: Clean and dry bare wood, free of mold and mildew
Frequency: Permanent in wood if exterior surface is kept sealed with a quality, water resistant stain
Special instructions: One coat application
Rinse thoroughly before finishing
Drying time: 1-4 weeks, depending on weather conditions
Recommend 2 weeks, then lightly wash with Log Wash
Surface must be dry to the touch (free of residue) before finishing
